Ian Ross-Gowan
Manager
Ian has been managing the application of the R&D Tax concession and related programs since 1993. From 2000 to 2008, Ian was the Group Tax Manager for a Top 100 Group of Companies, and was instrumental in introducing the tax concession to the business and in developing an R&D culture by working with engineers and technologists in that business.
Ian joined MJA in 2008 to expand his interest in promoting technological development in businesses as a key driver for our future. He has a strong accounting and taxation knowledge and experience in applying these to technical projects in mining, refining, manufacturing, distribution, construction and information systems.
Ian is a registered Australian Government Lobbyist.
Corporate Group Taxation Manager experience
As a former Group Taxation Manager for a large scale manufacturing and mining Group, Ian has excellent knowledge of all business taxes and their practical impact on businesses. This includes the R&D tax concession and related issues, such the classification of expenditure as deductible or capital in nature and an understanding costing methods in manufacturing and mining businesses.
In addition Ian has worked in management accounting, financial accounting, information systems and procurement.
CPA and Academic relationships
Ian is a member of CPA Australia’s Taxation Centre of Excellence, an advisory panel of CPA Australia that helps set the agenda of business tax reform for this professional body. He is also the Chair of the NSW Corporate Committee.
Ian holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and Accounting from Newcastle University and a masters degree in Taxation Law from UNSW with a university award for taxation policy. He is presently a candidate for a PhD in Law (Taxation) aimed at research on reducing the impact of tax effect accounting on businesses.
