John Haining - Michael Johnson Associates

Associate

John started with MJA as a graduate consultant in 1997 and left MJA on 10 July 2009. You can keep track of his future projects at johnhaining.com

He has worked with clients in most industries that rely on technology for competitive advantage in Australia. These have included companies in agriculture, software engineering and development, internet services and connectivity, steel production and processing, heavy engineering, food manufacturing and processing, hard rock mining, coal mining, biotechnology, medical diagnostics, solar energy, and embedded systems.

Influencing Policy

John writes about the connections between innovation and industry policy at MJA’s blog, Innovation Is Industry Policy, which is read by industry participants, government personnel and tax specialists. John is an active friend of the Hargraves Institute and a former vice-chairman of the Sustainability Group and a trustee of CEDA.

This approach is intended to expose a lot of the thinking, debate and discussion that happens within the firm to the outside world, and to engage with supporters and opponents of innovation and R&D tax policies.

Within MJA, John coordinated knowledge management and professional services marketing activities.

John holds an undergraduate degree in Law and a masters degree in Business from UTS, and is admitted as a legal practitioner of the NSW Supreme Court.

Outside MJA

Beyond the R&D tax concession, John has worked directly with technology entrepreneurs, coached inventors and works as an adviser to startup enterprises and has a deep interest in the intersection of information technologies and business success.
